Pavement menace?
ARE those who cycle on pavements a menace to pedestrians?
micah4 thinks so. He has, on occasion, 'narrowly escaped being injured when, out of nowhere, a cyclist zooms past me at high speed on the pavement'. He especially fears for the elderly, who may not respond fast enough and be injured.
Meanwhile, wai feels that those who cycle on the road are a menace to motorists, as bicycles cannot keep pace with cars, are too fragile and hard to spot at night.
Finally, RallyRally says: 'As a cyclist, I'd rather cycle on the pavement and risk hitting a pedestrian, than cycle on the road and risk a car hitting me.
'Ultimately, it's about etiquette. Perhaps cycling bells should be made mandatory and pedestrians should learn that they do not own the pavement.'

Buzz over space port
NEWS that Singapore will have an integrated space port in Changi offering flights into space by 2009 has sparked off a lively thread.

SuperOrange thinks it will definitely boost tourism, although Dj Skye asks: 'Do we really need such a thing?'
Fatfool, too, doubts the viability of the enterprise.
Singapore does not have a lot of land, he says, and he doubts that 'they can use the runways here to land'.
