  however, if there is no computer at the ip address, ur computer will crash.... then if it's the middle of the night, the telephone will ring but no person talking when you pick up.........

  when you ping an IP address. the other party will reply with Configure-Ack packet. This means that it acknowledges your authethicity and establishes a connection with your computer. You can then access any files and deleted anything with full root access.

  actually certain firewalls block icmp pings, but most will block if they detect an icmp ping flood.

  Ping IP will give you the reply from the IP itself only.
