Do hawkers earn a lot?

It really depends on where you rent your stall and if you are the original owner of that stall.
Take my cousin who sell Rojak as an example. When his father first rented the stall at a hawker center 30 years ago, it cost less than a couple of hundred. They have sold rojak until today, and although the rental cost has raised considerably, it still hadn't hit the couple of thousand dollar mark.
Mine expensive, cuz coffee shop. -

what abt those businesses.. the stall very popular already and they sell stuff 'for the day' only.
like say, they make three big pots of the mee rebus gravy. sold out already, close shop. maybe just open shop for 4/5hrs.. they earn a lot ah just working to earn a pre-determined amount of $? -

Well, Singaporeans are a strange bunch of people... they are willing to queue for ages, endure bad service, pay a hell lot of money for a small pathetic plate of food that has as much ingredients in it as the food sold in primary school canteens... all because of some report in the newspapers that decided to award that particular stall with a 5-star rating.
It's really no wonder why hawkers can afford big bungalows and drive ferraris. -
surely hawker can earn money, but wud u wanna stay in the kitchen and cook food all day? well, not me

The gross income based on average of 600 plate per day at $3.50 each is already 65k per month.hmm 3k utility bills,each worker pay about 1.2k (assume employ 10? so 12k)food material cost at reasonable amount of 25k.Rental 15k,so at least 10k nett profit left? -

Depends on the food.
Some- no business, the good ones - queues very long esp if they are featured in Makansutra/ Yummy King.
My favourite porridge seller earns a lot- employs 4 pple. Stays landed, drive Merc. have maid but he works very long hours.
Tells me he gets up at 4am, works everyday incl. public holidays & sun. He only gets off during CNY.
Luckily by lunchtime he is sold out.
His sons don't want to help him cos it is a tough life.
