Bought a Schnauzer!

  anyone knows how to care and train a new puppy?

  your schnauzer which Size one? Small medium large?
  
  Miniature, Standard or Giant?
  
  miniature one can train yourself.

  i have a male mini. they're intelligent to train by urself but u must dedicate time n effort to their training.
  
  training schools...expensive leh but up to individual 'parent'. training start as early as 3mths old. best is to start around 5-6mths. they're pretty hyper then esp. for males. females should be more manja. singapore schnauzer club dun have anything on their site ...

  I understand if your asking abt how to train the puppy. But how to CARE for the puppy? Lacking preparations before buying it I see...
  
  My advice is, don't get frustrated with the puppy while training.

  to train schnauzer... if the club don't have weekly gathering.. then i suggest you get some GOOD books. not just any book with a Schnauzer on the cover.
  
  but the for all training, you must know the art of "positive reinforcement".

  schnazers are prone to having skin problems so use a mixture of medicated and regular dog shampoos wen giving it a bath n do it regularly at least once a week or wen nessacary. i reccomend bio groom shampoo. plush puppy smells nice but is over priced n overrated.
  
  i hope u r feeding it dry food, a pup requires bout 2 - 3 feeding times a day. each times just put a handful of pellets into the bowl will do. as he grow older. switch to adult formula pellets i, increase the amount of food n feed only once a day. always keep fresh water available at all times. if no one is home to change or top up the bowl. get the bowl tt can acttach a upside down mineral water bottle tt will self refill.
  
  keep your dog entertained with chew toys. raw hide bones r good for cleaning its teeth and a diversion from chewing up yr house during its teething period. try to brush its teeth during bathes too. use a soft toothbrush and toothpaste (regular human brushes will do fine and i use kids flavoured toothpaste so tt its like a treat)
  
  wenever you bring it outdoors. make it a habit to check for ticks. n do NOT play with your pup for hours on end. ignore it if you must. pups r naturally playful n attention seeking. they dont knw wat the meaning of tired is until they suffer from fatigue and in most cases its fatal.

  and please note. some dogs have n allergy to chicken. so safest to get foods that do not contacin chicken in amy form. even for chew bones!!!

  merrick's one of the better dog food...looks very gd too. hope they will come out with a fish meal for dogs.

  I read up and choose to use choke chain.
  I use food reward and physical punishment to train my schnauzer.
  My schnauzer listens to me....watches my movement to avoid making dumb moves.

  pls remember to plc yr choke chain in the correct position to the side u r standg else it mite lock n choke him/her.

  yeah I know the direction to place of course.
  if not, when your dog choke and you say.."he shy lah...dunno how to talk properly..." WTF?????????
