5.1 surround headphones

yes there is. The market for these were only few years old. Since then it is flooded when the technology improved.

i tot 5.1 means: 1 front speaker, 1 right speaker, 1 left speaker, 1 left rear speaker, 1 right rear speaker. the point 1 means 1 subwoofer.
If there's a 5.1 headphone, i think it's intented for martians like u. -
WHAT ARE 5.1 HEADPHONES REALLY?
5.1 headphones don't really have a 5.1 speaker setup, they can't because... well you can't glue speaker to the back and front of your head, what they do is simulate it by using 3 speakers on each side (could be more for added base). These 6 speaker work with a little bit of added software/hardware to make it feel as if sound were coming from all around you.
CABLES/CONNECTIONS/WHAT YOU NEED
Stereo headphones use one normal 1/8" analog out cable. I'm sure 4.1 uses 2 then (rear and front). 5.1 uses 3 though (front, rear and center).
Not any computer/audio device can play 5.1 sound or 4.1 sound for that matter. You have to have to have the right sound card or hub.

typical price around USD 60 for the headphones. call that expensive?
the first generation of 5.1 surround headphones (if i am not wrong) around year 2001 comes with a decoder or circuitry which u have to use with and it cost about 700 bucks or like that. As of now, i think don't need for it.. -

I guess when technology improved over the years, it's actual real sound ... inside the headphones mini speakers are built in . What u get is like a micro-home theatre built inside the headphone. amazing how things are getting smaller and smaller by the day.

It's not real. It is better known as Virtual surround. 7.1 Channels obviously evolved ard 5.1 channels. At the moment, the 7.1 channel system available mostly are done with mixing the SL & SR together.Originally posted by Rexdriver:I'd love to see the 7.1 series.
