sending books via mail. can fit???

i once discovered a full-size yellowpages in my mailbox and wondered how it got in there.
and now i'm contemplating buying a novel from acmabooks. they mail books. so will the book get into the mailbox or will they send upstairs?
anyone can explain? -
the person that deliver the letters to your letterbox will open the letterbox from the back, they got the keys, yar and put it in.

The last time I sent a parcel larger than the mailbox could fit, the postman just forced it in, and my friend had to tear up the packaging from inside the mailbox to get its contents out.
A formal complaint was sent to singpost and a formal apology was obtained thru the same medium of communication. -
Does your letterbox allows the postman to open it from the back where they have full access to it instead of just the tiny slot ? If so, you can buy your books and get it mailed into your mail-box.
