PC Card is not designed with the kind of electrical power and hi-speed bus to run a ADSL/Cable modem i think.Originally posted by Ponders:But i have yet to hear ADSL/Cable modem in the form of PC Card.
to surf the net wirelessly, u need to have a wireless access point too. if you just have the card but no access point, how are u going to connect into the internet?Originally posted by xiaodingdung:once u got a wireless laptop..then plug in the pc card modem to surf wireless is it?
no. best u can get is 10/100 Ethernet or 802.11g.Originally posted by photo_seeker:Is there Cable Moderm built in form of PC Card ? I doubt the power is sufficient anyway.
u need BB/Cable, and a wireless router.Originally posted by TehJarVu:i have a wireless laptop
when I come back to singapore i'll prob sign up for a BB plan. then can I surf wirelessly? Or must I sign up for a 'wireless plan' <-- got such a thing?
so surfing wirelessly at home, i will need BB <-- eg. singnet, meaning i will have an ADSL modem and then i will also need a wireless router?Originally posted by ^tamago^:u need BB/Cable, and a wireless router.
if u wan just an outdoor wireless surfing plan (can't surf at home), u can check out Singtel or Starhub, both offering it at $10/mth as an VAS.
no lah, ur modem and wireless router (or u can get integrated modem-cum-wireless router, ask for thomson ST570/585 from singnet) happy happy stay next to ur phone plug. and u need a power point nearby for the adaptor.Originally posted by TehJarVu:so surfing wirelessly at home, i will need BB <-- eg. singnet, meaning i will have an ADSL modem and then i will also need a wireless router?
then with all the wirings I can't be very mobile around the house right?
so maybe can forget about the wireless part if at home?
oh ok thks will take note of the models *bookmark*Originally posted by ^tamago^:no lah, ur modem and wireless router (or u can get integrated modem-cum-wireless router, ask for thomson ST570/585 from singnet) happy happy stay next to ur phone plug. and u need a power point nearby for the adaptor.
at home use wireless is good. conveninent. surf in ur room, in the toilet, kitchen etc.
u definitely need a broadband service from singtel, pacnet or starhub. but then, if WiMax do comes out, then u can use wireless like 3G.
eh. if u have wireless router, u can surf anywhere in ur home without wires. ur laptop must have wireless (802.11g preferred) or is a centrino.Originally posted by TehJarVu:oh ok thks will take note of the models *bookmark*
surf in room/toilet/kitchen <-- must have a wire long enough what?
simi si WiMax and 3G? meaning really no need wiring issit?
yah mine is a centrinoOriginally posted by ^tamago^:eh. if u have wireless router, u can surf anywhere in ur home without wires. ur laptop must have wireless (802.11g preferred) or is a centrino.
with WiMax, yes, u dun need cables for the whole of singapore. suddenly ur laptop become hp. haha. but i wonder if it'll ever take off fast enough.... don't think of WiMax as your option, it will not be available in the short term, and no laptops offer it yet...
i had an idea, put wireless in trains (1 in each cabin) connected to this router linked to a 3G modem. then SMRT can sell wireless...
