Is it compulsory to install SP2?

I have been using winXP w/o any service pack.. but stil working fine.. but if i wanna set up a wireless network, do I need to install SP2? or optional?

nope theres no need to install sp2 i am using wireless at home now and while my bro's com is on sp2 my laptop isnt and we still connect well

sp2 is like for an entire network...
if u r only a indi user then sp2 is not needed..
read it somewhere inside microsoft's website -

WIthout SP2, your Windows is VERY vulnerable.
Getting SP2 installed, is like having the whole gamut of innoculations against all known security issues in XP. -

As we all know M$ pattern does it mean with sp2 you will be walking with clothes? Who can guarantee tat rite? How many service pack we have seen issued out from them. Having sp2 may gives extra protection but not total protection.
Maybe for kiasu-ness some ppl wan sp2 but it is not mandatory. I think having sp2 is like having a shirt on but without underwear and shorts below. So a sp3 or sp4 or sp5 should be in the works coming

With patching, you can still secure it. Microsoft only make it more secure by offering you free firewall for those who don't bother to get a firewall. It is turned on by default.
SP2 is meant to patch up all the known security issues and provide some security as well. It saves you time of downloading the updates one by one. With it, you patched up the whole system at one go. Without it, it's still the same by going to their update website. -
