I have a question for you. What century are you living in? Sounds like the middle ages to me.Originally posted by LinLing:Recently, my baby cousin, only 3 years old, had taken to saying, "STUPID" and making this...face.
And we asked her where she learnt it from. Her answer? "TV."
Now we had limited her time on TV but just yesterday, my maid told me. "You know, Maya, came to me this afternoon and said this "You don't love me, you love only Weiling didi." and I said, "No. Who bath you, who tie your hair, who bring you to school? Me right? But I never do for Weiling didi!" and then Maya smiled and went away happily"
Maya is the name of my cousin and Weiling is my name and Weiling didi means Weiling Sister coz' our religion is Nepalese, don't ask, and then I remember this show....forgot the name..that says, "You don't love me! You love her because you do this...." and so on.
I am worried about this as I feel that whatever the TV impart to her, she remember-and do it.
Plus the fact that some TV shows have the "Shut up" which we don't want her to learn as we want her to be a kind young lady when she grow up. PLEASE DON'T LAUGH AT THIS. And I hear the word, "IDIOT" quite often too.
I know this sound lame but are the TV shows safe for kids to watch nowadays?

Yup kids nowadays pick up very fast...but i've seen parents scolding thier child with some vulgarities when their child misbehave...Originally posted by LinLing:I know. But sometimes, we leave her alone to watch TV as whenever she watch a show she likes, she will STARE at it and won't blink until the advestiments come.
Come on lah, nowadays all the kids like that; you go with the flow. Don't swim against the current. Whatever for? You think if she grows up a kind person she will be happy? It is more important that she be well educated and can think for herself and know how to make herself happy. You as a didi should not try to control what she becomes but learn how to effectively educate her on how to think for herself.Originally posted by LinLing:![]()
Hmm u must be from a conservative religion & family background....Originally posted by LinLing:Afraid she get into trouble with the society....
You know, spewing out the bad words..
If she is smart she will not do that. So the important thing is to teach her to be a smart person. Have you not seen good, polite, kind stupid people????Originally posted by LinLing:Afraid she get into trouble with the society....

Everytime I tell her to PLEASE sit down so I can read her a book, she says.....Originally posted by casino_king:If she is smart she will not do that. So the important thing is to teach her to be a smart person. Have you not seen good, polite, kind stupid people????
I rather that your baby cousin is intelligent rather than good, kind and stupid. If you really care for her welfare and not just talk, you should buy her baby books and read to her so she she becomes interested in reading, growing up.
How about read to her just before she goes to sleep? That is usually the time people read to small children. Tony Blair the PM of UK said that the book he read the most time is a children book because he reads it for his kid.Originally posted by LinLing:Everytime I tell her to PLEASE sit down so I can read her a book, she says.....
"NO! DON'T WANT!! GO AWAY!!" and then cry.![]()
so if the elders are rude to me i should whack them until the cry alsoOriginally posted by gr2012:Hah...you know, the answer that will end all the troubles is this:
A tight slap.
Just one.
Not too hard.
Just make sure she cries.
When I was young, I dared not be rude to my elders lest I get caned or smacked.
I am quite an ok person with good character now.
Sometimes, you just need to get a little physical, cos kids these days are getting more and more spoilt.
By the way, I am only 13. So dont give me the "you grew up in the 60's" crap.
You cant stop the child from learning the words, but u can stop her from spewing them. She will learn one day, anyway.
One more thing:
At least she is learning the english from the TV right? "U dont love me, you love Wei Ling didi!" is a good step towards good english.![]()
I believed that I mention she was my cousin, not my sister?Originally posted by casino_king:How about read to her just before she goes to sleep? Oh yes. She is also a BIG TATTLE-TALE. No offence but seriously. I will only just say, "You don't behave, I will pita you!" (Pita is beat in Nepalese) then you know what will happen? She will run off to my grandma or grandpa and say this, "Weiling didi said she will pita me if I am naughty..." and her voice TRAILS and she start to cry. Then they will scold me.Originally posted by gr2012:Hah...you know, the answer that will end all the troubles is this:
