today i talked to an expat... he spent 9 yrs here already.. in media industry one.....
he got chauffer one... den he somemore dare to say he just bought a piece of land... an island to be exact... recently in thailand...................
Listening to such things.. the way of life of expats make me think what am i doing in this country.
Just to share my thoughts. -
errm... some expats are here for intangible reasons one.
1) in a finance related company where dealing with public is important... client just feels a presentation by an expat more credible than a local.
2) expats understands the corporate culture back home, so he is here to give directions on how the local branch should work.
3) expats are here to receive info from HQ and execute them locally. -
they come our country receive high pay
but we go over their country we receive low pay.

In reality it's not related at all.
Whether he is an expat or not.
A local can also have a chauffer and own an island. A local can also work in the media industry and become rich.
What you're seeing, is someone who is rich, and own an island, and has a chauffer, and work in the media industry. Why or how this happened to him? Because he is an expat? It was because he is a highly skilled professional and got a successful career, thus he became rich and can lead a good lifestyle.
Don't get your attention diverted to the expat status. That is superficial. You can substitute his status with anything.

1) As much working experience as him
2) As good as him
that is in everything you are on par with him, then you can compare how much he earn etc else it a totally baseless comparison because he sure have put in alot of work n effort to achieve what he has now isn't it?
expat is just a name giving to someone that is working outside their own country. it doesn't give them supernatural power nor inhuman intelligent nor working ability. -
you think by simply going away to another country you'll magically get all these perks ? ....
that you'll start getting a chauffer driven car, earn lots, and buy land in Thailand ? .....
*foreigners can't buy land in Thailand btw ... they can only lease land ... unless you've a Thai spouse -
