But if you are talking about interest or applying the things we learn in school in Spore society, the threadstarter may hav a point. Stuff like chemistry formulas, integration, newton's laws etc can be redundant depending on the jobs we take.
Also, most of the students study probably not for the sake of interest in the subj or for the desire to learn more formulas but because society dictates it.
Now primary school stuffs are getting harder ya know? And cost of living is rising. -

I didn't studied to get rich. I studied because of interest in the subject. I studied to became a better person.
Studying is not confined to the classmate. Studying is about learning new things, gaining knowledge. Some people successed without any proper certification, but that does not mean they did not studied. They merely did so in a different way!
Perhaps you are looking for a consumer goods. The first thing you do may be to list down specification. In this age of IT, you would start surfing the internet for details on products. You assemble a list of product you are interested in. Then you source for the product, where to get it at a good price. After which when at the store, you could compare and contrast the different products on offer. Then you select the product you went. This is also a form of studying, through the process of purchasing you have learnt something new.
You go on a trip overseas. You travel around, try to break the language barrier. Learned about their culture, their food. How to behave in that place. How to travel around using their public transport system. That is also a form of studying, as you gain new knowledge!
Do not limit learning to the classroom, perhaps its true you do not need a proper cert to be successful, but you definitly need to study!
By the way, common sense, is the least common of senses. -
In terms of studying to get a job.
Your certification from school is an educational cert. Having it does not mean you can do the job. Having it means you are of a certain level and can be trained to do it. -
