How important is speaking chinese in singapore? I'm assuming you're referring to mandarin.

blacks in america also learn english, our minorities should learn mandarin too

even some sgean chinese themselves hate chinese and refuse to study them, so that means chinese is not really necessary at all

Singapore is unlike Malaysia, where non-Malays have to learn Malay.
It's not a good idea either. We are exerting pressure on them to learn just because we are the majority here. Why can't it be the other way round? We should their languages instead. -

Anyway, we should each have to focus on our mother tongue and work on it. Learning other languages should be up to the individual's discretion.
Right now, learning Chinese is popular because of China's rise -
one should learn mandarin not for the sake of passion, but for the sake of using it to cheat china people money.
mandarin is not necessary in singapore.
ultimately, english is the way if you want to go international.
the chinese in china themselve are learning english...
