We used to have Dell in our office. In last than a month after we bought them two of the PC went up in smoke. They came and replaced two new PC without telling us what happened. Anyway we have now switch to Acer.

If you all do a little search with Google on leaky and swollen capacitors on motherboards, you will find DELL in the list.
Dell has also admitted last year on ZDnet that certain series of their computers contain faulty capacitors that tend to leak or swell over a short period of use.
So far, from experience, I've seen more Acer comps with swollen and leaking caps then DELL.
That's because Acer use ECS Elitegroup motherboards - they suck! -

my first intel diy pc after 2 years still going strong need a reason to replace it....my other one year old amd one althoughh bought from some possibly used second hand rma parts also doing very well now finding a very good reason (like got enuff money) so that i can replace it also....once u diy u will always diy and change pc 1 i tell u hahahha

DIY is ok, so long as you know what you put together, and how you put it together.
How you put it together determines the durability of a system. -

last time my comp runnning winxp and after release of sp2 i find need to upgrade more ram....i think if your comp sarport higher speed ram u can start getting mdule at afaster speed and u can also add the ram capacity to improve performance...but if yr system really that old i can say forget upgrading it if u untend to use modern application that is processor intensive

I'm using a DIY PC for 6 years and I work with Dell computers day in, day out at my client place where I am deploy to.
IMHO, Dell desktops rocks. (Desktops, laptop unless you are using the high end series like Precision M60 and M70, don't even think of buying other Dell series laptop, then of course it's my personal opinion)
Why:
1) In terms of support they are very professional, they have all the KB of their product. It's no nonsense support.
2) The price you are getting is worth every dollar and provides one to one exchange on next business day basis.
3) Even if your desktop runs out of warranty, the support personnel are still willing to help you out.
However there still Dell models that don't last more than 3 years, the GX240 Optiplex series, most of them last for slightly more than 3 years because their IBM hard disk starts to give way after the 3 years period.
Even for home users I got several friends who happy with their Dell products. Then again they might be the lucky one...
