Actually, your motherboard manual will state the maximum supported RAM and the type of RAM.Originally posted by bladez87:how do i check what the max for my motherboard? and how to check whether it is pc133 or what? i dont know what is this pc133 thing. haha. i only know RAM got 2 types. i dont know how to read the info from the program. i go motherboard , but it no says what type of RAM can use.Originally posted by Lim Wei Ming:Download CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com/
It will tell you your system specs including your RAM configuration.
After checking, it is confirmed that 1GB RAM is FASTER than 2x512 RAMOriginally posted by er_liang89:Most motherboards only allow around 1GB of RAM, be sure not to over put the maximum capacity. It will be faster if u add two 512MB RAMs instead of just one 1GB RAM
Correct.Originally posted by chenc:After checking, it is confirmed that 1GB RAM is FASTER than 2x512 RAM
There might be a misunderstanding. Most people thought 2x512 RAM is faster because they read that 2 RAM with same memory runs parallel technology and thus faster. But this only apply in case like 2x512 RAM compared with 512+256+256. In this case 2x512 RAM runs parallel and 512+256+256 does not.
However, most definately 1 RAM by itself runs faster. This is why PCs with 1G RAM sells more ex than those with same configuration but 2x512 RAM.
Partially true.Originally posted by Lim Wei Ming:Mixing RAMs is not advised even though it will work. It is advised to purchase RAMs of the same type, size, no. of chips, single sided / double sided and similar CAS latency.
Depending on when you bought the computer. Bought less than 3 years ago, 2GB is the maximum it can go. Bought less than 5 years ago, it's around 1GB or 1.5GB.Originally posted by er_liang89:Most motherboards only allow around 1GB of RAM, be sure not to over put the maximum capacity. 2X512 is definitely faster than 512+256+256.Originally posted by chenc:After checking, it is confirmed that 1GB RAM is FASTER than 2x512 RAM
