Why do we need to pay school fees during internship in poly?

I juz curious, since for internship in poly, it is basically having a semester in the attached company. There will not be any lessons or tutorials and most students will not be using the school facilities at all. So why do they still need to pay school fees for that semester?

you mean your ITP ? ... or a real diploma specific internship ? .... -
Some people said you pay for thier networking and the experience you gain from the attachment.

coz u r still learning thru ur poly, just tat it is at yr company? dun forget tat even if u r on attachment, yr lecturer is still working for u(as a facilitator).

a semester is roughly more than 10k
whereby their salary is about 400-500 per month..
so they pay to work? thats kinda ridiculous isn't it.. -
welcome to the real singapore.
when you go internship, your lecturers and poly need money too. and also you have to take care of their increases to match inflatiopn. -

Internship for singapore poly is that, we will work for a company for a duration of 4 months. It is not ITP as ITP is carred out during our holidays
[6 weeks].
So students will choose either to take ITP or Internship.
Those who choose ITP will begin their semester in school, choose some module to study and final yr project, while those who choose internship will work for 4 mths under the company.
The point I'm trying to bring out is that, since those who took internship will not be studying in school, utilising the lecturers..blah blah... why should we pay the full amount of schl fee for 1 semester, $1000+ ???
To pay them because as facilitator? Someone whom I see once/twice a month to show a log book? That IS alot of work as compared those who are lecturing in lectures, tutorials....marking exam script....blah blah
I dun see the point of paying the full amount of school fee for that semester.

I'm a poly student going on internship too.
I questioned this before but eventually i kena psyched myself that well, that payment is alright.
Some points why we should pay.
They sourced our internship. (Unless you sourced your own)
They have to make sure we're not ill-treated.
They act as in-between for us and company if there's feedback. Cause some of us don't accept criticisms nicely.
They make sure we learn things on the job that will apply. (Applicable only if your facilitator does that)
I don't know how often you use campus facilities but i don't use them much even when i'm in campus. So facilities doesn't really affect.
Anyway, if you think this is unreasonable, you should question why we pay adult fares for transport when others of the same age get student fares. That to me, is a greater issue for concern. But shan't discuss about it cause its not the right thread.

& the lecturers still have to provide guidance & mark all yr reports at the end of the internship. it might be lesser work for lecturers, but doesnt mean no work done so you dont have to pay them.

and you're still a student of the company..
u borrow money from bank,not in singapore also must pay the loan wad.. -

I have some doubts over the points that you raised.
They sourced our internship. Fully agreed.
Ill-treating of employees could be complained to Ministry of Manpower also, and I believed that those employed as interns would be protected by the Employment Act ? [anyone can verify?] So, dun see the point.
They act as middle man when communication breaks down between the student and the company? Couldn't they sort it out on their own, student and the company directly, may it be the boss or whatsoever? If the student can't accept criticisms nicely, why work? Nxt time go out work also like that wat. Where got everything so smooth sailing. Making facilitator sounds like a nanny.

You mean, they make sure the company will teach us skills that will be related to our course of studies? So do we have the right to refuse work that is beyond our job scope? [no more coffee making!!] Would that ever happen?
I do think that it is unreasonable, and I feel that paying 100% of the school fees could not be justified. May be 40% or less?

Since the poly technic school fee is not being paid , 1 lump sum, 6k +. Its pay by PER semester. SO.... those who are under the attachment programme,who did not choose internship, who work during the six weeks of holidays.
Do the students need to pay the Poly extra fees for the services of the facilitors during the Six weeks of holidays??

LOL. in my independant sec school it cost me 200 a month, and they charge me 12 months a year, even during June and December holidays. Same la.
