PS2 for $250? Brand new slim ver?

Today i went to Simlim and asked for PS2 modified. There are 3 shops at level 1, all said they are selling at $250 slim version set that is modified with dont know what 7 chip. They claimed that the set can play All countries games, watch all countries DVD.
So i go for it? this is my first time playing PS2, any thing i need to ask? -
1st of all, I think the mod chip is call merssiah or something like that. Last known is merssiah2 i think.
And if i din remember it wrong, the mod chip is illegal now.
Things to look out for are, how many original PS2 controllers are u given. Memory cards ?
To be on the safe side, bring a priated ps2 game there to try on the set before you pay for it. If it cannot play, then its nor modded for pirated games.
In case they claim , " oh must be your this dvd spoilt, thats why cannot play. Bring 2 pirated games
Have fun. Btw. why not you wait for the release of PS3 ?
There price of brand new PS2 will drop... and people will sell their PS2 when they upgrade to PS3 -

I realy dont know the shops name. But, PS3 will be out on around Sep. It will be long....
Because i am thinking of Xbox360, but it is way to expensive... $660. -
messiah 2 pro is the least that u must get....
there are other new chips...
But bottom line, i will say is messiah 2 pro... -
