Help! CD Drive problem

My CD drive at times opens and other times does not.. what happened

Open up the CPU. Make sure the screws are not lose. If not open halfway will stuck there or sometimes won't even open.

What kind of ssytem are you using? If yours is OEM, then opening the case will void the warranty. So be careful.
If its a DIY, its better to just buy a new drive. Go down to Sim Lim Square and purchase any optical drive. Most are at bargain prices. $30 for a Samsung CD-RW or spend a bit more like $50 can get you a combo drive. DVD-RW costs $70+.
Open the case both side, remove the 4-pin molex connector on the drive and remove the IDE ribbon cable. Then unscrew the drive, slide it out from the front. Replace the new drive into the now empty slot. Replace the ribbon cable and 4-pin molex. Power on the system. Press DEL key to get into BIOS. If BIOS detects the new optical drive, you are home free. Press F10 to save the settings. Job done. Simple isn't it?

If your system has 2 optical drives on the same ribbon cable, then you need to configure the drive at the end of the chain as MASTER and the other as SLAVE by adjusting the jumper cap.

Seriously man just buy a new drive lah. (Read my other post.)
If I have this problem, I'll gladly buy a new one.
Imagine you just bought your expensive Rainbow Six Lockdown game or music CD, place it into the drive and found out later that the drive won't even open anymore. It really is a stupid feeling trust me.

Can your system detect your CD rom when it does not open as intended?

no, it can still play Cds. But when sometimes it refuse to open, like its trying hard to open but get choked instead.

Either CD drive is spoilt or the screws are loose. CPU - Central Processor Unit (the biggest IC that is hidden under the biggest fan you see when u open up the chassis.
Chassis - the metal casing/ box that houses the main computing hardware (PSU, graphics card, CPU/HSF, any other peripheral cars, all hard optical floppy drives)
unlike vertical loading optical drives usually has a clip on in the ejecting tray middle, those without should be placed flat and horizintally on the table. if the disc can be played back most probably there is no issue with the drives other than that from the small rotating motor/s at the internal. else it could also be some timing issue with the rom so make sure the latest and correct firmware is updated on the rom. (note firmware updates and drivers update is different. messing with the wrong firmware on the wrong model may damage the rom)
also if your comp real slow let the rom stop all the playback activities and stop the media rotation before it enables a safe and proper eject.
lastly the best solution is cyn give me her rom and 10 dollars s/cc i scrap the part for her prob solved she should get a new rom need lobang call 1900-newmanmback for great deals iin first and second hand roms -
1) Maybe the connection or the intact between the open button is faulty?
2) Secondly, my assumption is there is nothing to do with software or operating system.
3) The best approach i can think of is open your cover and check if all the cables securely attached.
Alternative is unplug and plug the cables back again.
4) If problem persist, advisable to to unscrew your cd rom and test out in a friend house or maybe consider buying a new cd rom.
5) You may consider upgrade your cd rom into a dvd rom/ dvd writter rom as it is in a affordable range now.
