Yes, sexual slavery of all forms and degrees (including the abduction described above), is actually (and sadly) a lot more common in the world, than most governments will admit. Moral of the story, take very good care of your gf or wife, and best if don't go overseas (no matter which country) for leisure holiday at all. Go only for compulsory business trip (and don't bring gf or wife!). For leisure, save the money (every cent is hard earned and precious) and go for local holiday instead.

If you got money go with the tour package lor in this case then there would be more protection. If go alone make sure you know the place well first.

The story I heard many years ago concerned a newly-wed who went to Thailand for their honeymoon and on their checkout day, the taxi cab driver used the same trick and sped off with his wife. -
I have heard a Ang Mo country. I do not name the country.
These girls are sign very short contract to enter this country. Something like 3 months contract. As long as not local speaking girls, drug them & keep the girl each in a cubical to sell sex for $. These girls are not given any protect from pregnancy or sexual sickness. And all "customer" deposite their "Liquid" inside this is why they can ask for higher $.
After 3~6 months, usually these girls are pregnant. They were sent to unknow place blind fold. They were released. Which is now a big problem for the Government. These girls don't want the child, but already cannot abort. Average the Government found 20~30 such girls every month. The Government are pointing them as illegal over-stayer & trying to sent them back because they only have 3 months contract to enter the country.
Seems like both the agency & government are working hand in hand together. -
Moral of the story lesson learned... Always use hotel's taxi... or if you use outside taxi remember if the car spoiled... get your wife to come out also take out your luaggage and take another taxi. Forget about him... Actually...
if I am the one... I would hack care the taxi driver... kaoz I customer and paying for the fare I still need to push car for him... -
Use the public bus lor. The bus driver can't possibly ask you only to push the bus right.

havent we all heard/read stuff about child prostitution in the poorer countries?
how kids are made to become prostitutes because they were told initially that they would get jobs like waitressing (sp?) and what not.
thailand, india, africa, mexico...
and the number of people who actually care enough to do something are disgustingly few. and usually, its because they have gone through that hell and thats why they bother to do something for the kids.

The story by that Op is really great except it has no substance in our modern context, perhaps if he/she lived long enough in America, he/she will have a better understanding of how the system of prostitution works there...
Or otherwise he mis-judge someone as stupid as to go and push a car with the lovely wife sitting inside....hehehehehehehe
