  okie erm..i know lots of ppl are having their exams rite now but i just got this qns that i dunno how to do:
  
  how many bits does one need to encode any position in a string of 200,000 symbols?
  
  pls pls pls help k? Thanks!!!

  I try only...dunno correct or not.
  
  200,000 symbols means 200,000 in decimal.
  to convert 200,000 base 10 into base 2.
  
  200000 = 30D40H = 5 x 4 binary digits.
