Said Mr Lim, "We have shown that we have been able to get through these rough patches, whether it is 2001, whether it is SARS in 2003. I think there is a growing confidence not just among the business community, but among the population."
The minister, who leads the West-Coast GRC, says his team is geared-up for a fight.
Said Mr Lim, "For West Coast GRC, all my team members have been proven. In 2001, I had three new candidates, so I carried the burden of three new candidates. This time round, my whole team is a proven team. We go in much stronger than in 2001. This time round, I am reinforced by Ayer Rajah, and Ayer Rajah is a very strong single constituency added to my GRC. So I can't ask for a better combination of factors."
Mr Lim, who was at a ground-breaking event for a S$450 million nutritional powder plant in Tuas, also gave his assessment of Singapore's economy.
He said, "Right now, the numbers are working out as we projected. We expected a much stronger first half than the second half. But at the same time, we don't expect the second half to be much slower because the local economy is doing well." - CNA /ct
