I am using a POSB Master Debit card, it is mastercard with only debit facilities, but I am able to do online shopping, like buying things off the net, but cinema tickets.
Basically it is a mastercard without credit facilities that's all. Hope this input helps. -
credit card is in a sense safer than debit card. cs if ur debit card is missing, the stealer can sign off n straight away n ur money gone instantly whereelse credit card u can report missing n no need to pay.

In the event of losing your debit card, you have lesser liability incurred compared to credit card because you can end up paying more depending on the charges incurred prior to notification of loss card.
This subject to the card issuer's terms and conditions as a cardholder. If you fail to report the loss, you are liable for any charges occurred prior to your reporting because of your failure to report. Can even make you a bankrupt on extreme cases.
Debit card is definitely better and safer. -

GO! is an ATM and a signature card. its an electronic card which can be use for point-of-sales only. cannot online buy porn la.

POSB master debit got annual fee unless you make 18 or more transaction with that card, then fee waivered.
POSB GO! is free. -

i really want to make online purchases from some US sites.
is there any service here whereby u put some money in a bank, and they give you a debit card that has the same amount of $ you deposited?
(like if i give $500 to the bank, they gimme a debit card with $500 in it and then i can use this card to make purchases online; if the debit card's value is empty, then i top it up......something like cashcard, but can be used online)

you can do tat with a debit card wat.... just put the $500 in ur bank account and u can use it straight away... in fact, a normal debit card is like an enhanced ATM card that u can use worldwide like as though it's a credit card, except that the VISA server will always ask if ur bank wants to approve the transaction, based on how much money u have in ur account....

as long as you're 18 and above, able to put deposit of SGD500-1000, depending on banks, you should be able to apply for one.
Some Info:
Scenario 1
When applying for a debit card and you don't have an existing account with the bank, you will be asked to open 2 accounts:
1) Current Account - This is where your money is deposited, is a statement account and ATM card can also be requested.
2) Debit Card Account - Linked to your Current Account
When you swipe your card, draw cash, purchase things online etc, the amount will be deducted from your Current Account immediately, just like NETs.
Scenario 2
When applying for a debit card and you have a existing with the bank, you may link the Debit Card to your existing account. -
