Girls' views on NS system

  What are the girls' views on guys need to do abt 2 yrs national service (effectively is military service) while they no need even though all are citizens of the Republic Of Singapore enjoying the same citizens rights protected by the same laws ?

  I think it's unfair to girls if you say girls don't have to serve NS while guys slog their heart out. Girls can be physically fit, but girls have a weaker physical fitness as compared to guys. I think this arguement won't end as long as NS is present. Give us girls a break.

  I never say girls must go combat what. I agree that girls are generally less fit.
  Even in guys there is a system to classify your medical fitness into PES A ,B ,C ... Girls can serve as clerks or service medics. Or can even serve in other government departments other than SAF since its national service not military service.

  If u consider SPF and SCDF to be para-military forces, then it ok... But the way u write, seems to say NS is limited to the SAF ... Then how can girls actually make a reasonable comment on such a topic ???

  okay most guys go SAF, some go police and scdf..but the point is I think the Enlistment Act is not very fair to guys. Girls are also citizens why no need serve NS. NS not only restricted to combat or uniformed services. They can serve for example in hospitals as nurses , in Ministries as clerks or receptionists.
  Girls always say give birth v siong..But they have a choice not to give birth. Not serving NS is a serious offence under Enlistment Act, penalty is jail. Girls nv give birth will they be imprisoned at Detention Barracks?
  As for the issue about maternal leave can disrupt work , it is a 1-time event. But reservist is 10-20 years affair. Giving birth is 9-month affair (include the discomfort exp. during pregnancy) but NS is about 2 years more than 24 months.
  I do not expect NS to be abolished due to the defence needs of the nation but I expect the guys to be either compensated or make the girls contribute in their ways too. ( Dont mention giving birth etc as they are not mandatory by law)
