idk...where in china are you talking about? or are you talking about PRC chinese in singapore?
the situation im talking about was as recent as.... early april.
my friend visited beijing, shanghai, ningbo, and some of the smaller towns. Last Aug, when another friend of mine went to china, the service was bad at 1st, and then when the PRCs found out they were non-local chinese(brit-born chinese, they don't speak chinese), the locals immediately became very apologetic and told my friend's family that they should have told them they were british chinese.
Very clearly 2 different standards of treatment, a really good one for overseas chinese, esp those who speak english. another lousy attitude for their own local chinese, even though those locals who can eat in restaurants are rich. -

i was there two years ago...
but isnt it the same here?
many locals treat non-singaporeans better.
especially if you are white. -

maybe its a chinese thing. seems that amongst me and my chinese friends, PRC, taiwanese, HK or otherwise, we all agree the chinese do make a lot of distinction amongst themselves as to what chinese they are. HK chinese are HK chinese, malaysian chinese are malaysian chinese, PRC are PRC, taiwanese are taiwanese, and even within PRC, loads of distinction like whether u're from Shanghai, Beijing etc, and from each district, whether u're from the villages, the towns or the cities.Originally posted by udontknowme:ouch...
