  If the umbrella blocks out UV rays totally, you won't get tan at all cos the UV rays is the one that actually stimulates the production of melamine in the skin and causes tanning. Unless you are talking about the umbrella blocking out the more harmful UV-C and letting the less harmful UV rays passing through.

  No harmful and healthy, just less harmful and more harmful.
  
  UV rays are classified into UV-A, UV-B and UV-C, in order of increasing frequency (decreasing wavelength). The higher the frequency, the more penetrating and harmful is the rays.
