Depends on your needs lor... If short-termed housing needs, renting would be good, but long-termed, buying would be better...

lets not think bout short term or long term... but is it worth to buy??

i would rather wish to see a renting cum buying scheme. plain and smple..you rent the house and once u payt he full amnt in rental, you get to own the house..i think this way is fair and square..

If putting that aside, renting would be a better choice...

what happens when the leases of ur HDB flat is up... yet to see anything that has happened till now

Rent got plenty good choices and locations at competitive prices.
Buy got few good choices and locations and prices are stinking high.
I'd rather rent cheaply than buy affordably.

depend on your financial ability.
And if buy also have to see the how many years left for that HDB flat.
if it is an very old flat...most likely don't buy it..why...flat is an asset and also a liability...why?
asset ----is base on the market factors like supply and demand for that kind of hdb flat and the people perception on the value...and of course the other control factors that affect it.
liability---- with each years passes minus the 99 of years (depreciation)... the vaue of the flat will decrease...so 99 years later...haha should be zero value to the flat...and other liability factors.
But most of the flat don't go over 50 years cause too old...therefore the depreciation value reaches zero before 99 years.( regardless of repairs or upgrade to the flat, it will be zero by 99 years.)
the value of a flat increases when asset > liability...and decreases when liability > asset.
Rent it (when you have no money or intend not to stay in singapore for long term.) depend on the location and is it a room rent or whole rent. The length of stay you intend to...best do a calculation base on the 12mths and compare the value with the buy factor(base on 99 years on less.)

If u have the means buy f'hold preferably landed- can pass to your kids & save them from having to pay housing loan. A f'hold pte. apt is also good- choose those without full facilities cos the maintenance can be very high. Look for those older ones cos they are cheaper.
