bought new computer parts...need help

  Okay I bought a new hard disk, additional 1gb of ram and a dvd writer. My bro tried to help me fit them in.
  
  The ram is fine, detected and all.
  
  The hard disk however, is not. Windows indicates that everything is fine and dandy, but I can't seem to find the new hard drive so I can actually use it. what's wrong??
  
  And I can't install the new dvd writer cause my brother said I need an IDE cable which has 5 slots to accomodate all parts. As of now, my current CD-rom drive is not usable cause he fitted in the new hard disk instead. So where can I find such an IDE cable? How much does it cost?

  BIOs detect harddisk or not?
  
  Think u need to partition/format b4 u can use
  
  ide cable cheap...can get at any comp shop...a few dollars nia....

  oh ya hor i remember my uncle saying must reformat the new hard disk.

  1) For your HDD, you need to reformat one, go [Control Panel] -> [Adminstrative Tools] -> [Computer Management] -> [Storage].
  You will find your HDD there and then you click on the long bar, right click and choose the option to format, if your are going to partition it then you will have to format to [Primary Drive] first then format again for the partition you want.
  
  2) As far as i know, 5 slots IDE cable quite hard to find. think you take out your CD/ROM and perhaps use your Writer to read CDs bah

  1) Is this your second hard disk? If yes, you need to set of them to Master, one of them to Slave. Locate where the pins are and change the jumper settings accordingly. Then go into BIOS and change the settings to detect another HDD.
  
  2) IDE cables can be bought at computer shops for around $3 to $5.

  I still no space! I got 2 hard disk now. ACtually, I think I ought to transfer all the shit over to my new hard disk instead.
