handphone from japan to be use in Singapore

  i have a Nokia 6680 that is bought from Japan 6 mths ago. I was wondering whether is tit possible to bring in to use in Singapore. I tried putting in Sim Card and it also said that Sim Card invaild. Any recommendation? thanks a lot

  Mostly cannot. Because Japan is using Digital System. It's different from GSM Sim card.
  
  I remember last time I go Japan, need to Loan a handphone set from Starhub. This means my normal Singapore phones cannot be use in Japan. So I think your set bought in Japan cannot be use in Singapore either. This is about 4 years ago.

  Vodafone 702NK II? The phone does support 3G and GSM networks, including those used in Singapore.
  
  Where did you put the SIM card, and the card is from which provider?

  Times have changed. You can now use your 3G phones in Japan. NTT Docomo and Vodafone provides the autoroaming service on their WCDMA network.

  ya that the model. i just lift up the battery abd there is a slot for the sim card. i put in both normal card as well as 3 G card. both also invaild

  yup not all phones can unlock. Got to check on the net which phones have been unlocked.
  
  They have firmware (HK version) these days, so no need to open up the HP liao.
  There are shops in Japan(tokyo) to unlock the phones.
  Please do some research and share it(here) before you get a phone in Jp.

  You know why nowadays got quadband? So your phone can be used in japan. Doesn't work the other way around though.

  confirmed that 702nk ii needs to be unlocked by carrier, but it's harder cos it's bb5. if it's an earlier phone i can give u the unlock code now.

  whether jap phones can be used in singapore, it depends on whether their WCDMA 3G bandwidth used is 1900 or 2100mhz. we use 2100, japanese and us use 1900, and their hi-speed data service is known as EV-DO and 1xRTT.
