Libraries In Singapore

libraries in singapore operate differently.
anyone noticed?
some libraries have a few books of the same title while other libraries dont even have one. -
Maybe due to the different reader groups in each individual library...

isnt it better to let other libraries have one each. -
Different Libraries cater for different groups and thus some libraries doesn't have a particular title. Take a community library and a regional to compare and you'll know the differences.

i haven't visited libraries for quite some time but i don't really see a lot of the same books on the shelves

got once i visited a newly opened library......i found 10 brand new books of the same title same author on one shelf.....
so new i dun dare to hold the book......scared paper cut.......
then i go to a seasoned library and found 20 different titles of tattered books by same author one one shelf....... -
Normally when i go to libraries, they have 2 or 3 of the same book especially for popular books so as to cater for the demand.
In the case of the national library, certain titles are tied down to a specific branch, like certain reference books can only be found at a certain branch, say the New national library.
You can easily check the status of books by searching the catalouge at
www.nlb.gov.sg -

they keep it in transit.
you can only borrow the book from the library that owns the book. -

The library catalouge not zhun one. I tried to find the books, always don't have. You have to go a few libraries to find that book. The best thing is people return books and the accompanying CD at another library. It's irritating, when you need the CD, but can't find it. -

now nlb is testing the library book vending machine.... next time, u anytime also can borrow the popular titles....

true, you would have thought NLB at Bugis have them all, but some really important books, are found elsewhere
But i must say, Bugis is the one with the most extensive collection
if you feel lazy to travel to another part of sg, or the book is not urgently needed, can ask them to transfer to the nearest library for you i think

the books will then by held in transit. it cannot be borrowed until it is back to the library where it originated. -
