Esplanade is not for Singapore to show its very own culture! Its for Singapore to show the world its moving towards a society which appreciate art and have this element in their everyday life.Originally posted by sammizhu:Well, FireIce gave the correct answer. Thanks!
But why we need any foreign architects as consultant on these kind of cultural icon projects?
I like your answer! So which buidling/architecture do you think is used to show its culture?Originally posted by chenc:Esplanade is not for Singapore to show its very own culture! And once again, its not design to be a durian to show Singapore's unique culture!
Its design to allow people from inside the building to have a maximum view of the outside environment. The chief designer said its designed to be the eyes of a dragonfly. How it was seen as durian by many is still a mystery to me
because our government believe in foreign talents...Originally posted by sammizhu:Well, FireIce gave the correct answer. Thanks!

Accept? But are you accepting it in the first place. Its not design with cultures of Singapore in it, yet you still wanted to believe other wise.Originally posted by sammizhu:I like your answer! So which buidling/architecture do you think is used to show its culture?
Those temples and mosque called cultural heritage? Or the Merlion statue(it's not even a building)?
Anything designed should be understood and accepted by public. What it looks like is not important. When everybody think they are two durians, they actually are.

Please go read the magazine carefully. Its appreciated not because of it look like durians, but because of the smart use or triangular angles and large window panels.
Oh i see. So they draw the blueprint with the help of a durian? If not what has the durian got to do with thisOriginally posted by GHoST_18:laugh all you want...
i might not know everything...
but i think i have enough knowledge in this field...

Build HBD Executives and Condos....and Shopping malls.Originally posted by sammizhu:Take It Easy!!!!!!!!
I'm not saying durian makes culture. It's just a shape.
My purpose is to discuss the position of local architects.
Too many foreign talents and also local competitors. And the government intend to employ more foreign architects companies.
How the locals struggle to survive or even being famous?
Oh please! Read my post from above. If you watch the CNA Esplanade special from years back, its an open fact that Wilford mimic the eyes of a dragonfly when he design the building, and was shocked when people say ' Look at that 2 durians!'Originally posted by GHoST_18:diff architects work differently...
some work with metaphors... some work with site constraints... it depends...
in this case... u would have to ask tat architect from michael wilford how he derive this form...![]()

Yup, thats what this world is. For them to survive, either they work really really hard and show that they are better, or they too collaborate with foreign firms. You cannot blame the failure of local firms onto the success of foreign firms. And although the government is supposed to look after its people, it cannot afford to restrict foreign talents as this is the era of globalisation and a country cannot afford to keep itself shut from outside worldOriginally posted by sammizhu:Take It Easy!!!!!!!!

Please la. Dun always go against whatever i post. Its because the threadstarter say some local firms cannot survive in tough competition so i refer to their failure. Of course some local firms are successful. Just that i did not include them in my postOriginally posted by GHoST_18:the local firms didnt really fail...
there are many local firms tat are popular in the architecture industry...
of coz there are some tat fail to catch up with the changing times...![]()
