TOKYO : Pop singer Michael Jackson arrived in Tokyo to receive an award, breaking nearly a year of seclusion since he was acquitted on child molestation charges.
He will appear Saturday at the MTV Video Music Awards in Tokyo to receive its "Legends Award," announced Positive Productions, which is promoting the trip to Japan.
Jackson, 47, has sold more than 100 million albums in Japan alone, said his US-based spokeswoman, Raymone Bain.
While in Japan, Jackson will visit orphanages, tour Tokyo and meet with members of Japan's business community, Bain's office said in a statement.
Jackson, who broke into the music business as the youngest of the Jackson brothers, went solo to record "Thriller," "Bad" and "Smooth Criminal" albums.
"I look forward to seeing old friends and saying hello to my huge fan base in Japan, who, like my other fans around the world, have for so many years consistently shown their love and support to me and my family," Jackson said in the statement.
After being acquitted in a sensational trial in June 2005, Jackson left the United States and his 1,000-hectare (2,500-acre) Neverland ranch for the relative anonymity of Bahrain.
The fallen icon announced last month that he has restructured debt repayments, believed to total hundreds of millions of dollars, with the help of Sony Corp.
So u tink wats gonna happen again??
