Ask Leonardo la. His painting mah. However, the painting was damaged, almost unrecognisable and were restoration works being done. It could be a conspiracy as skeujin suggests. The painting is in the first post "The Last Supper" is completed around AD 1498, so only about 500+ years old, and had went through several restoration after that. The person whose face was circled is actually the Apostle John.

These names are all agreed upon by art historians. In the 19th century, a manuscript (The Notebooks Leonardo Da Vinci pg. 232) was found with their names; before this only Judas, Peter, John and Jesus were positively identified. -
