I'm taking a single person fyp next academic year.
All the project proposed sounds very difficult and I cannot understand what the description really means.
I did a search on IEEE explore and SPIE and found that this subject has been studied for over 20 years. I don't understand most of the papers and I think I can't make any contribution.
Now I got to write an interim report on my study, but I haven't done any experiments. All I have are facts and figures from here and there. I'm not even sure if my interpretation is correct.
How am I going to impress my supervisor who after all have tons more of experience and knowledge than me? What I found out would be rather obvious to him.
Anyone got FYP experiences to share?
First of all, you need to let people know the topic of your research in order for them to help you.
Why don't you conduct a literature research and come out with a list of who has done what? Explore their differences and similarities. Identify what is missing or what are the areas you can or want to improve on.
Use the area which you identified from the literature research to form the purpose of the project. From there, you can determine your aims/objectives of your project. What kind of results are you expecting?
Next to follow will be the proposed methodology. That is how will the experiment be conducted.
As you have not conducted any experiments, perhaps a gantt chart showing the FYP progress will be useful. Using the gantt chart, you will need to show that what are the work you intend to carry out. That should be enough for your interim report.
You will need to discuss with your supervisor on these and see if there is anything you will need to improve on.
