  Even a normal modem downloading speed is not constant. A way to describe the wireless modem would be like if you were using a wireless router with a laptop.

  As long as you know how to secure your home network just like how you'd do it for a wireless router, most people will not be able to steal the bandwitdh from you . However even the most seemingly unpentrable barrier is not going to stop a determined thief.

  actually if you disable SSID broadcast plus set password plus restrict phyical address should be quite safe...

  As long as you secure it, it cannot be tap. Of cause, don't use the default password!
