Voluntary consent to remove life support

  I rememeber reading an article in ST about two years back. It's about a procedure in Singapore whereby you can sign a form to declare your preference in situations when you are left in an unconscious state infinitely and cannot decide for yourself. The preference is whether to continue life support equipment or to remove it. I cannot recall exactly what this service is called and when it can be obtained. Anyone in the know? Thanks a lot!

  I think it is different from euthanasia.
  Euthanasia is mercy killing decided at the discretion of the doctor and your family I think. Whereas the kind of service I am asking about enables you to declare in writing your own intention in advance so that your own intention is respected in situations you cannot voice it yourself.

  AMD - Advanced Medical Directive. Can get the form from your doctor, and must be signed by doctor, I think, plus one witness who will not benefit from your passing. The article did say that some doctors may not offer this service if they're against the principle.

  Thanks Wanda! I was watching a drama where there is a guy in vegetative state. It reminded me of the article. And I know I would not not want to have my life continued, if I were like that.

  Technically even if you didn't sign the form your family members can do so for you on your behalf.
  
  They can select which organs to donate ranging from the iris, to the skin, to the internal organs.

  I thought it's for children who are not of age to decide for themselves?
