Daily Tips for Tour Guides (no, not advice! but money!)

  My mother is going overseas with a tour group.
  
  She says that for each day the group is in the foreign country, they will have to each pay USD5.00 to the tour guide as tips.
  
  Is this practised in several tour agencies?
