British double murder suspect McCrea to escape death penalty

SINGAPORE: British double murder suspect Michael McCrea will escape the gallows.
Prosecutors have offered to reduce the murder charges to culpable homicide.
McCrea is accused of strangling his driver and the driver's girlfriend in 2002.
The double murder case enters its home stretch with the prosecution offering to reduce the 2 murder charges in response to representations made by the defence in April.
46-year-old McCrea is alleged to have killed his driver, Kho Nai Guan, and the driver's girlfriend, Lan Ya Ming, in his apartment.
Their decomposed bodies were later found in an abandoned car at a carpark in Orchard Towers.
This reduction to 2 lesser charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder means McCrea will escape the death penalty.
If convicted under the revised charge, McCrea could face up to 10 years jail or a fine, or both.
Defence lawyer Kelvin Lim told Channel NewsAsia that his client is considering the offer.
The defence lawyer is expecting to get a written confirmation of acceptance from McCrea on Monday.
If this happens, then the 5-day trial that is originally set to start on June 26th will not proceed, and he will write to the authorities to fix a date for his client to plead guilty to the reduced charges.
The Court will also take into consideration one of two charges for disposal of evidence relating to the crime.
McCrea's 23-year-old girlfriend then, Audrey Ong, was jailed for 12 years in 2003 after she admitted to helping McCrea dispose of the bodies. - CNA /dt

Angmoh's girlfriend (sinkgaporean) gets 12 years.
So if you're angmoh, you can kill 2 person and serve less term then a sinkaporean who just helps dispose the body.

There are too many cases of foreigners getting better treatment over sgreans. But this just takes the cake.
10 years for 2 lifes? Contrast it with 12 years for disposing the bodies. I'm speechless. -

wtf.. can the Law open a bigger eyes on this anot? why ang moh must have better treatment than singaporeans? 10 years? at least life time in jail lah. Not say we Malaysia or Indonesia, we are Singapore. Now the IR resort is coming soon and more ang moh will be dropping by, so if more of such things happen the law will still give light sentence issit. screwed up system.

Maybe the government thinks that singaporean should know the laws better then foreigners. so if u know the laws better then anyone else and u still commit a crime, u deserve to be punished more harshly and severely.

Not the first time singapore shows us they have 2 different sets of law. One is catered for the rich, elites and the foreigners(more to angmohs). Another is a harsher set of law for common folks. A few recent examples I can think of, if anyone has the link, that'll be better. Angmoh can bash up a sg girl over some dog incident and get away with a few thousands dollar fine.
Angmoh's car knock down and killed mother and child, yet got away scot free with reason like surrounding too dark or something like that.
SG woman knock down and killed angmoh jaywalker jogger who dashed across scotts road, and SG woman has to pay a huge sum in compensation to the deceased family.
Even foreign maids get better treatment then locals.
They can kill and chop people up into pieces and get away with murder with excuses like underage, stress etc.
When SG man chops people up (prc girl in recent case), he gets death sentence. -

got nothing to do with anything else...
try not to incite riots where there is no injustice...
now.. if he was found guilty of 1st degree murder and he was spared the gallows, that'll be a different thing... -

He murder 2 persons yet he still just charged with culpable homicide. It so truely unfair. Under normal law, murdering of 1 person is enough for u to face the death sentence yet this guy is just offer only 10 yrs of jail..
some more compare to his girlfriend, whom only help to dispose the bodies get a longer term than him..
It either his rich enough to get a bloodly good laywer or it truely unfair treatment compare to the local... This show that law is never fair, unless u are rich or born a forerginer .. dun go and commit any crime.. singaporeans -
