Anybody know how to play in SecondLife????

My friend recommand me to SecondLife, an online game in which you have virtual life and also business. I created a charater for myself, but haven't figure out how to play it.
Is there anybody can teach me how to use it?
Quesion:
1. Is it necessary for me to buy a new land, so that i can build something new, such as shop, home? Or i can build things anywhere?
2. When i find some interesting places, it's very difficult for me to get there by running or flying, especially when it's very far from my current position. Is there any better way to get there?
3. I supposed i could meet many charater there on the land, but actually i didn't see anyone after i met a guy at the starting point. Where are they? Are they in any gathering places?
4. Anyway, it's very complicated for me, coz i never played any video games!!!! -

I play secondlife
Its different compared to other MMORPG game because there isnt one defined goal in the game. Its basically a community based virtual world where you can explore worlds and meet friends.
For the more ambitious, you could learn to build items and houses, create clothes and sell them for their currency (which can be converted to real money if you want)
Anyway to answer your question
1. Its not necessary for you to buy land as they arent free. There are alternatives if you want to have your own place such as renting or joining groups. Some groups allow you to have free land.
2. When you find an interesting place, dont forget to 'create landmark' that way, you can teleport to the place without flying there again and again. Its like a bookmark
3. Dont worry about it, its like real life - people want to move around after a while. Eventually you'll find people to talk to
A good meeting place is 'Ahern' - thats where alot of people are, but it gets kind of laggy though, for the same reason.
4. Take your time. It took me about one week just to get used to it

Well, if you're like me, yes, its quite time consuming. There are days when I could spend about 2 - 4 hours straight in the game. The first few weeks I could spend sleepless nights over it because there would always be interesting resident created events going on.
Nowadays I dont play on it that much and have to control myself because of work and studies commitments.
But if you ask me if its a waste of time, I wouldnt say that. It depends on your point of direction. I like creating 3D items and it was because of 3D worlds like Secondlife that I learnt how to use softwares such a spazz3D, Vue and poser.
mhcampboy and polarsnake : Yeah, the site needs a credit card for age verification. Currently Secondlife is above 18 only but there is also a version for teenagers. No money will deducted by the credit card however. I use the DBS Debit card as my credit card

You can earn SL money by creating items and selling them. The SL money can be converted to real money. Its like e-commerce. It really depends on how well you sell your product. -

i think they should limit the amount of land.. like real world. with real land features.
it just goes endlessly..

Meanwhile, the land is not well planned as the real world. In real world we have streets, blocks, residential area and CBD. In second life there are too many strange buildings, some are only objects in stead of buildings.
Yesterday, I tried to build something in the area which belongs to someone else. I just began to practice while someone threw my building into "lost and found".
