  I'd choose to be White (American). Not British, not Aussie, not anything except American. I love the USA and its colors.

  I have a feeling that there are few things that only the experience of living in America would help you adjust that view...I'm an American who choses to stay here in Singapore - not cuz of a job...
  What people may think of American and way of life, etc. depends on a LOT of factors - and a LOT of people don't have those factors...

  I think any country would be ideally good as long as you have money. If a middle-class American were to move to Indonesia, he would be able to afford luxuries that he can't have in America. For instance, chaffeurs, chefs, house keepers, gardener etc. Of course if you are dirt poor, you don't want to be anywhere in the developing countries due to the limited opportunities. So I think your financial status plays a major role.
