Natural Law = Competition = ??

Natural law states that humans are selfish.
There's simply too much competitiveness and selfishness among homosapiens.
Just take a look at Sg for instance: competition in career/work, school (academic results), sports, fashion, fame, money, etc.
Have your take on that.

I'm constantly in competition with myself, rather than putting myself in competition with others because I feel it is a recipe to invite misery as different people have different talents and more often than not, I'm not going to be the best of the lot comparing myself to them. So far, sticking by my principles is making my life pretty happy and satisfied person so far. If I were to compare myself to others now, I would think, damn here and there how come they are capable of that and I am not, damn damn everywhere and I would feel so unhappy, when actually, happiness depends on myself and not others. -

However, this world has something called standard. To know whether you are up to this standard, you will have to compare with people who reached them.
If someone keep comparing with themselves, it only shows he has low self esteem or inferior about himself.

yes, because of competitions we have such living standards...then again...hw many are actually barely coping with the financial burden? hw abt those who can't follow the pace? wat are they doing nw? we hear the govt claiming to help these lower income population, but why are there still ppl collecting cans frm bins? collecting cardboard pieces frm stores? -

Because of different pay rate, the worker works harder and econ boost. They wanted to get higher than each other, and econ boost better.
However in this earth everything is balance, in one side of the world will be someone damn rich, another is someone damn poor. Those who competed will become richer and those who doesn't even try become poorer. -

Hobbes political philosophy states that Man is not naturally good, but a selfish hedonist. Human motives, in their natural state have highly destructive consequences.
