Just now, beaten my niece , she cried and sleep. she's only 3.5 yrs old.
i dote on her very much, play with her, bought pokemon stickers for her just now.
is coporal punishment still good, before she runs wild?
the reason for punishing her was that she rude to my mum and everyone else. she scold 'sai' and i keep beating her and tell her not to do it...
how else can teach her le..

When i was very young , i heard adults scolding vulgarities. I remembered and started using them. My aunt was so angry she would lock me in a dark room. That worked

i think discipline is impt.. but must be reasonable. they're too young to understand what is right and wrong anyway.. they should be taught to trust the adult's judgement for now..

after seeing how kids behave nowadays and the way parents discipline them. the cane is still the way to go.
its funny how some people who are doctors, advising parents how to take care of kids, don't have kids themselves. -

Then, you should find out where she learn the word from, like ask her, who teach her the word..etc...cuz this could lead to greater findings...like who is the sickening uncle or brother who teach her all the bad things... (bet, you never even think about this).
Lastly, you should not beat her anyway, but show your disapproval, e.g. give a bad face, show that you are angry with her... and say that if you say that again, you will never buy toys for her already... (again, think you never do this also).

That kind of punishment i think only mother/father authorised to give. Since she's just your niece, i think just a small warning is enough... after that you tell just what happened to your sis/bro so that he/she can take her in hand.

i didn't catch on the vulgarities when i was a kid.. -
punishment can be in various forms......what your punishment is classed as i think is physical punishment.
that will not REINFORCE the concept........i think its best to let the child SIT and ponder upon her mistakes instead of physical punishment.......
there are many forms of punishment........physical punishment might not work on everyone........ -

You should have use psycology instead of useing force. Remember the episode that the kid was put on the "naughty stairs". It seemed to work. Everytime the kid mis-behaves, he was put on the naughty stairs, cried his eyes out and learnt his lesson.
So review, find something she scared of, like a dark room, and put her in there until she learnt her lesson. But must always remember to tell her what she did wrong or she'll never learn. -
