where can i get a backpack at a reasonable price?

Go to backpack shop lol, alot of different designs... go plaza sing, 5th floor i think

then take my word for it, buy the best you can afford, I bought one of those chionged 100+ alpine lowe packs when I was younger, one side of the straps broke on my coming out of the airport ......
I've carried a bunch of packs before I use a northface badlands 75 for short treks, and an 80L Macpac for longer hauls ..... they are good packs, Northfaces are cheaper than Macpacs, and both are pretty good value, you get get models for around 450 to 600+, it's way cheaper than those high-end thousand dollar mountainsmith or arcteryx stuff ....
if you're going to do a lot of working, or want your pack to survive the airport, get the best you can afford, your back will thank you for it too ... but stay away from those el-cheapo chionged packs .... -

I got my Macpac overseas, but I believe there's a distributor in Singapore, you can search their website I suppose, Macpacs are around 500-600+ depending on the size .... but honestly, I think for asian builts, and if you're not doing any cold-weather travel, a 75 litre pack is plenty ....Originally posted by leo-kun:where can i get macpac?

if it's just to ophir or something, you can probably wing it with a cheaper pack, but other than that, I strongly suggest you try to get the best you can afford ....
like I said, I have carried those cheapo stuff before, you can't load them up, the material's not water-proof, anything remotely heavy and the harness' creaks ... and your back will hurt .....
you can swing by camper's corner or something, and see if they have anything on sale, or you can make do with something smaller, a 60L pack can last you a long time if you know how to pack your stuff, but if you plan to be backpacking quite a bit, then it's really a good idea to buy one good pack to last you a long time than to waste money on something that'll just break on you sooner or later, you really get what you pay for ...

Backpacks can be found at both queensway shopping center or Beach road.
There was a shop along stamford road that sells professional mountaineering backpacks but not sure whether its still there.
However, like most have pointed out, it's the shoes that make a difference. For those with weak ankles, go with high-cut models and make sure they are gore-tex.
For shoes, i recommend LOWA. (PS: buy online, not available locally) -

I'm not so sure about the rest of the brands other than deuter which happened to be my first backpack quite a few years back.
Check out their aircontact system. I kind of like the non-stick feel behind my back when I go on a trek and it fit me to a T and comfortable carrying it. The minus point on the product is the strap is extremely fragile material and a slight cut will likely torn the whole fabric. (maybe my carelessness :lol I hope they had improved on it.
You should go for comfort and fitting as priorty. -
