  make sure it's an .mp3 file lor. or u got enough memory on ur phone. or that u're not opening it with another application on ur computer.

  its quite weird, last time my mp3 the extension suddenly all changed to winamp, den no programs could open my mp3 until i go Open With den use winamp, all convert back again. DOTS@!!

  Dude, glad u solved your problem. But it seems that you are confused about the formats and the applications that play those formats.
  
  mp3 is a format used to store music. Another example is wma (windows media audio). You can see whats the format by looking at your file name. its the .xxx at the end. So for mp3 is .mp3 and so on.
  
  Applications are those which play those formats. Like Winamp and Windows Media Player. =)
  
  Like you said you can change the default programs/applications using "Open With". You will need to tick the check box in that window which says something like "Always open this kind of file bla bla bla..." Yeah..
