The new line of air-cons from Mitsubishi is currently the best one in terms of electric savings(got 4 ticks,the best) and...a special feature where you can open the air-con & easily reach inside to clean it YOURSELF!

If you want to save electricity... use one with an Inverter built in.
What an inverter does is to control the speed of the motor.
Last time, air cons with thermostat will simply switch the motor 100% or 0%. Frequent start stop of the motor takes up alot of electricity.
An air con with inverter, will keep the motor running bwtween 0 to 100%. This way, your motor is always on but adjusts itself to temperature so electricity is regulated.
As far as I am concerned, air con is simply a fan unit and a compressor. So as long as the compressor does not leak and the fan unit is reliable, any brand shouldn't be a problem.
Choose a fan unit/compressor combi with the BTU suitable for your needs.
A typical HDB bedroom will suffice with 9000 BTU. In fact 9000 BTU i find is slightly too poweful.
After aircon installation, you can save more electricity by insulating your room well. This way, the air con will always maximise it's low speed time. -

Any neighbourhood HDB aircon shop is good enough. Just that you need to do some bargaining and during installation you gotta watch over them. -

9000 btu to cool one hdb bedroom is way too much, unless its a 24hr kitchen that is.
