  The cheapest Garmin unit is near $300 for the basic model.

  The cheapest models, Geko series are about $100 plus. But you may not be really satisfied with the features. Top end models 60csx,76csx,etc are $800 and up. Try Perfect Watch at SLS or Blazer at SL Tower. Know what you want first at garmin.com. Get free maps at malsingmaps.com and don't forget to say your thanks.

  Yes, you can get it from Sim Lim Square.
  
  I think there is a local PDA forum somewhere (search google bah! cuz the moderatress may not like it if I advertise other forum here) for you to exchange info and even tell you how to update the GPS map (some small or new roads may not appear on the map).
