What's in a name?THE Sound and The Fury wonders why bloggers are being flogged for using pseudonyms when famous authors like Sylvia Plath and George Eliot used pen names to write their novels.
He writes: "People use pen names even for the admirable task of writing novels. I could speculate why. Sylvia Plath the poet probably did not want their novel to ride on her success as a person who also writes poetry."
The Feynman Boson agrees. He writes: "The credibility (and hence value) of an argument lies in whether the argument makes sense. Who wrote it, in anonymity or not, only hints at whether the argument is credible."
http://tomorrow.sg/archivesHuff over puffing banTHE smoking ban at foodcourts and coffee shops took effect yesterday. A huge furore has already arisen in cyberspace, with smokers cyring foul and some non-smokers calling for even tighter measures.
Beary84 says: "I'm dreading it because I smoke. Coffee shops are okay but next year's restriction applies to pubs/clubs too."
On the other hand, yan105 says: "The Singapore Government should just ban smoking."
But Kosmicheskaya writes: "If the Singapore Government bans smoking, there'd be an instant outcry among the smoking population as well as the rest of the world. People still think of us as 'that country that caned that kid and banned chewing gum'. Imagine if we banned smoking too."
