The aim of this project is to propose and implement a system of devices and innovations to assist the visually handicapped in taking public buses more efficiently and independently.
1. Announcements to be made at every stop the bus make for passengers to alight.
Objectives
• Alert the visually handicapped people of the stop that the bus is stopping so that they know when to alight the bus
• Raise self-confidence in visually handicapped people in taking public buses
• Reduce dependency on others when the visually handicapped is on board a public bus/waiting at the bus stop for their bus service to arrive
2. Sensors will detect the approaching bus service and speakers at bus stops will announce the bus number.
Objectives
• Alert the visually handicapped of the bus service that has arrived at the bus stop.
• Visually handicapped to reduce dependency on others
• To prevent visually handicapped from stepping on the road when there is an incoming bus. -

in China they already have part 1 implemented.
Part 2 havent seen. -

Hmm.
I think announcements on the buses are not so important... Okay lah, maybe not every stop, but it would be good enough to have an announcement system on board, instead of taped announcements for EVERY STOP, so that the bus driver can inform the visually-handicapped that the bus has reached their destination, and also to inform all the passengers on the bus in case of breakdown or something.
On the other hand, announcements at bus stops are important because sometimes, there is just nobody at the bus stop to tell the visually-handicapped that their bus has arrived. -

This system's already in use in Australia... at least in Perth where I went...
Press a button at any bus or train station and an announcement will sound as to which train or bus service will be arriving next and in how many minutes time... quite useful... -
