Hows their cab fare compare to Singapore ar?
Cause maybe going to taiwan on free and easy ... so ask about their cab fare ...

Will try to take bus ... but maybe sometimes still need cab ... hehe ... What is thier startup fare? singapore $2.40 ... theirs?

Theirs is NT70 or 75.(either one) About S$3.50-$3.75.
It depends where u go... anywhere the fare increase by NT5.
But their metre don't jump as fast as singapore unless u r caught in a jam. around taipei city average abt NT110-140 (about 15 - 20mins ride)
But it might be cheaper.
If you are going on a free and easy package, Don't take a cab from Chiang Kai Shek Intl Airport to downtown Taipei City. There is a fixed rate of NT1000 or more if i remembered correctly. Too expensive. At the exit of terminal 1, there are express coaches to Taipei City. depending on your location, you will have to take the coach from different company, ask for the company Fei Gou (Flying Dog in chinese) if you are not sure. The fare is NT120 per person i think (If they haven adjust the price). Quite comfortable.
There is also coaches at terminal 2. But i'm not sure the location. please check with the information counter when u arrived.
In the city, you can travel by Bus(Gong che), Cabs(Ji cheng che) or Jie Yun(MRT, Subway)
The subway is quite convenient as in location wise, but sometimes it's a hassle if you want to interchange. It's like the interchaging NEL where u have to walk a long way. And theirs is quite far with super long escalators.
If you wanna go to Shih Lin Night Market, You can alight at Jian Tan Station. Do not alight at Shih Lin Station although it's the next stop after Jian Tan. It's quite far to walk back and the entrance to Shih Lin is right Opp Jian Tan Station -

If you are taking the airport express bus service, another alternative is Airport Express, decked in silver body works with blue strips... Some of the stops in Taipei are right outside some of the hotels... Average frequency is about 30 minutes, starting from 0500hrs till 0100 hrs... For Fei Gou service, it takes you to Taipei Railway Station Terminal, from there you will need to find your means of transport to your hotel...
Me remembered when me took the Xiao Huang (cab) from Sheraton Taipei in Taipei city to the outskirts, it costed me NT$330 (about S$16.50 based on 1:20 exchange) and the whole distance covered was about 80km... -
Fei Gou will stop along hotels too. It stopped outside mine. Shih Lin Night Market. But it's too crowded and big. If you go to Shih Lin Night market, find the food centre and queue up for the chao da Ji Pai (Chicken Chop)
If you don't feel like squeezing with people, you can go to Rao He Night Market and Tong Hua Night Market. Also got a lot of things to buy.
Their things will be slightly better to buy in terms of spaciousness and price. There's a lot of things to eat too.
Actually along the streets you will also find lu bian tan (Street side stalls where they sell clothes, accessories and food) So don't worry that you have nothing to shop. And of coz the famous Xi Men Ding
If you want to wash yourself in hot spring (wen quan), it might be summer, still there are people who go there, coz there are good food. *slurps* For hot spring you can go to Yang Ming Shan, and there are some special places there to enjoy the scenery and have some nice coffee.
The town below yang Ming Shan is Tian Mu. There are some other stuff to walk there too.
If you don't want to go till Yang Ming Shan, You can consider Bei Tou. There is subway there, but i don't know the actual direction there?
If you wanna go to clubs and see some shuai ge and mei nu, you can hop to Plush at Jing Hua Cheng, Room 18 at Neo 18(Dunno if i remember the name correctly, Just tell taxi driver the building beside Warner Brothers (Hua Na Wei Xiu), Mint at Taipei 101(The tallest building currently, branded shops inside)
Ministry of Sound at Nei Hu. From Taipei city you will see a big, green ferris wheel. That is at NeiHu also. Quite a tourist attraction, because u can see the whole Taipei City at night. It's consider the surburbs of Taipei City, however, you can still take a cab there, just that it might be a little ex.
Remember to try all the snacks you can, like Oyster Mee Sua (U can Opt for Just mee sua without the oyster or Mee Sua with Intestines only), Yan Su Ji (Salted Fried Crispy Chicken), Yan Sui Ji (Salted White Chicken - My Fav! The only stall that i eat from is at the street beside Huan Ya Qian Gui - Huan Ya Partyworld KTV), Taiwan Xiang Chang, Ma La Guo (There are a lot of buffet Ma La Steamboat Restaurants around. Just Keep a lookout for 199, 299 or 399 chi dao bao kind of signs or wordings), Smelly Tofu (they really stinks), Xiao Long Bao, If you wake up early, try their breakfast by the Breakfast stall. Ask your hotel lobby where is the nearest ones.
For breakfast - recommend Dan bing with the condiments you wan, like tuna, egg, ham, bacom etc. Fan Tuan - Ball of rice with ingredients inside (there's salty and sweet, i always choose salty one), Sandwich, toast etc. -
try to go their pasar malam, Shi Lin Ye Shi. most of the famous food all there. dun forget to try their chou dou fu.. SUPERB!!!! smells awful, but taste great. or lua mee sua oso good...
xi men ding is not a must. cos mostly the same as wad u see in orchard n the stuffs quite ex. can try gg their takashimaya @ TaiPei Tian mu there. more varieties of cosmetics. dey have better brands den wad u see here. u may love it. dun forget to bio the bin lang meis too.. CHIO! hehe~

Dun take legal taxis. Take those illegal ones, cheaper but will scare the sh*t out of you.

try to go during the weekdays.. the place is too crowded during the weekends.. remember to try the "guan chai ban!!"

xi men ding mostly sell gals stuff.. a lot of sch gals during the afternoon.. big shopping centres r in "dong qui".. remember to go there..

-long shan temple (the locals told me the temple beri 'ling' one.. its jus beside the "longshan temple mrt station"
-"xiao ren guo" & "liu fu chun" (a bit out of the way cos not in taipei city. its near 'hsin zu"
-jian hu shan theme park (oso out of the way)
-stay at "yuan shan da fan dian" (if u got $$$$!)

Between the MRT and Bus,you can get to Most tourist sites, Night markets, Clubs e.t.c. Visit Trip Advisor for travel related forums. Many Singaporeans post there views on their recent trip to this wonderful country.
No more illegal cabs up North in Taipei. -
Luxy sucks leh.. i went to Plush... much much more exp cover charge but got lap dance and striptease... i went there with only my buddies and 2 platoonmates... and we never tell them abt it..got to know the place from a taxi driver
