  don't say all chinese from taiwan
  
  Taiwan - speaks chinese with same accent with us, speaks hokkien
  
  China - speaks chinese with diff accent, speaks cantonese

  We, Singapore Chinese, talk with Singlish-styled Chinese ending with 'lor', 'lah', 'leh' and 'har', also mixed Singlish, Malay and Tamil in our dialogue...

  Taiwan speaks hokkien coz they are very near Fujian.
  
  Hong Kong speaks cantonese coz they are very near Guangdong.
  
  Penang speaks hokkien coz majority migrate there from Fujian.
  
  KL and rest of Malaysia speaks cantonese.
  
  Singapore speaks hokkien mainly coz majority from Fujian. with the rest speaking teochew, cantonese, hainanese, hakka and so on.
  
  if singapore hadn't restrict the use of dialects in media (especially cantonese in hong kong shows dat we constantly watches), we would definitely have closer relations with our dialect heritage. holidays trips to Hong Kong, Taiwan, KL, Penang would be further fufilling.

  Peranakans are the earliest Chinese to come to this region. Sort of like the very first wave of Chinese to come here before the British Straits Settlement.
  
  1st wave = peranakans
  2nd wave = current chinese singaporeans (grandparents/greatgrand)
  3rd wave = current china chinese

  chinese gt hk chinese oso, although u'd probably refer em at china chinese bt culturally they are still quite different.
