Is body modification cool?

Today's NewPaper on Sunday talks about a group of young singaporeans who do all sorts of crazy things to their bodies, like inserting beads under their skin, splitting their tongues, and carving their skin to form scars that look like forms of art. Do these people really think body modification is cool or are they just trying to grab attention? The process is utterly sickening but the results are quite beautiful IMHO.

they look cool but they themselves need to take a lot of effort in grooming themselves..
my friend had a ring or something on her cheek, eating is difficult -
i think that body augmentation is for people who feel weak and inadequate. the human body is beautiful enough already, so why modify it unless you feel it is not good enough?

i just pierce my ear on the left a month back. it is difficult to maintain. my friends want to go back and pierce more, but i told them 1 is enough for me.
maybe i shall let it close soon, cause i can't stand the sight of wearing almost the same ear rings as the teenagers on the streets -
i dun find body modification nice...anyway i din pierce my ears b4...izzit nice to wear earrings?

These people are either too near-sighted to see the future them or they have too much faith in their wealth in years to come.
When you get old, your skin gets saggy and accentuates all the mutilations you have performed on your body.
If you want to avoid looking like a rag, you'll probably have to spend tens of thousands on surgery to attempt to cover-up or undo those things.
Harshly put, body modification is a foolish act in MooKu's humble opinion. -

There are many other ways to seek enjoyment. 
It's not definite that one can live until 50+ years old, but I do believe the chances of you living till then is much higher than you NOT living until that age.
