A tourist trap?THE newly reopened Newton Food Centre has drawn flak from some Singaporeans who say that it serves more as a tourist trap than a real hawker centre.
Soonkueh writes: "Some of the food is quite palatable, but you can equally great tasting food at lower prices elsewhere!"
Complaints about Newton's hard-selling hawkers also abound.
Cheryl512 writes: "Was there a couple of weeks ago, and was actively pursued by this grilled seafood stall auntie."
But
Khoo Lih Han says: "The excellent food and the wide variety of local delights is what attracts tourists to Newton. The ambience is terrific too."
http://talkback.stomp.com.sg/forumsA case of porn?THE incident in which a communication skills trainer hired for a month by the Institute of Technical Education was caught on a cellphone camera masturbating to a pornographic video has spurred debate on whether the students who shot and put the video on the Net should be charged for possessing and distributing pornography.
Wherehouse says the students "may also be at fault despite their 'public spiritedness' in relaying this far and wide".
But
jsbn thinks otherwise: "A student who caught a trainer with his pants down shot it on the phone and told others about it. How does big-time whistle-blowing constitute an offence?"
